OS Paul Halsall (P 91-97) had the Honour of being Captain of Royal Birkdale for the 154th Open Championship
The staging of the 154th open championship at Royal Birkdale during my year as captain stands out as a once in a lifetime experience for myself and my family.
To see our historic club once again take its place on the world stage – welcoming the finest golfers, more than 300,000 spectators, and global media – was both a privilege and a deeply personal honour.
To present the Claret Jug on the 18th green to Ryan Fox was a pinch me moment. I was delighted we got such a great champion and to win it with a wonderful birdie on the last hole was amazing.
The open championship at Royal Birkdale was more than a sporting event. It was a celebration of our club spirit and heritage. I am immensely proud to have served as captain during such an historic event and grateful to everyone who contributed to its success.
