By joining one of the OS Club’s societies, individuals can continue to nurture their passions, maintain ties with fellow alumni, and support Sedbergh’s future development. Each society offers events, networking opportunities, and the chance to give back to the School community in meaningful ways. Explore the societies and find one that matches your interests below.
Clubs and Societies
The OS Club’s societies provide opportunities for alumni to connect over shared interests. These societies bring together members from various fields, such as sports, the arts, and other pursuits, fostering collaboration and community engagement.
The OSGS (Old Sedberghian Golf Society) exists to encourage links, fellowship and support to and from Sedberghians of all ages, through the shared enjoyment of golf.
There are three regional branches of the OSGS – with Northern, Southern and Scottish Committees. New players are always welcome to join fixtures of any of these branches, regardless of your handicap. If you are interested Alumni Director, Ben Collins, would be happy to hear from you.
Regular events in the OSGS calendar include:
Northern:
- OS vs. School match – usually in May (Lancaster Golf Club)
- OS vs. Old Amplefordians at Ganton
- OS vs. Old Giggleswickians at Fixby
- OS vs. Old Oundelians at Moortown
- OS vs. Old Uppinghamians at Ilkley
- The Map at Ilkley
Southern:
- OS vs. Old Alleynians (Dulwich)/Old Lorettonians at New Zealand GC

The OS Cricket Team plays an annual match against the School, which usually takes place in April.
Future potential cricket events could include events based around the Lancashire County Cricket fixtures and possible matches against other alumni teams.
If you would like to get involved, please get in touch with Ben Collins (bpc@sedberghschool.org).
Following the success of the Pilgrimage, the OS Club Committee has explored the opportunities that may exist to continue the interest in the various theatres of war in which Old Sedberghians have fought.
It was agreed that the Pilgrimage had achieved its objectives; that of visiting the places of memorial of our fallen, educating those who joined the Pilgrimage, and drawing people together in the more social aspects of the trips.
A number of people have approached the Club to ask if the Pilgrimage could continue in some form now that the anniversary of the Great War has passed.
Whatever follows cannot be called a Pilgrimage as this had now been completed. The next Pilgrimage would presumably happen in 2039. The consensus is that we name the successor to the Pilgrimage ‘The OS History Society’. The added benefit is that this would allow us to look beyond the battles in which Sedberghians fought. While the continuing theme of tribute to the previous generations of Sedberghians will undeniably continue to be a large part of our ambition, the Society also offers a chance to learn more of the history and culture of interesting locations around the world.
In principle, we felt the following places would offer interesting locations to visit and where it is likely there has been some OS involvement: Waterloo, Arnhem, North Africa, South Africa, Italy, Norway, Normandy, Salonika/Dorain, and Berlin. We are open to other suggestions.
We anticipate that such tours are best kept to four days maximum, possibly five if there is any great distance to travel as we are conscious of costs and people’s time. We hope to retain Dr Bruce Cherry who was so instrumental in making the Pilgrimage tours a success.
This is a project still at it early stages. However, we would be most grateful if people could let our Alumni Director, Ben Collins (bpc@sedberghschool.org), have their thoughts on this proposal together with any expressions of interest in joining one of these tours.
The OS Hockey Club meets twice a year during OS Weekend (usually between September-November) for an annual match against the school team, as well as the invitational, round-robin Dean Close Hockey Sixes Tournament which takes place in October in Cheltenham. Please see more information about the event below. New players are always welcome so please get in touch with Ben Collins (bpc@sedberghschool.org) if you are interested getting involved.
The OS Netball Club meet annually during the OS Weekend fixture against the School team. There are also plans to enter an OS team in future alumni events.
New players are always welcome so please get in touch with Ben Collins (bpc@sedberghschool.org) if you are interested in getting involved with the team.
The OS Club organises a number of annual rugby matches and events for OS Rugby players.
Recently, the Old Sedberghian Club took up the invitation from Hong Kong Football Club to enter an Old Sedberghian team into their prestigious Rugby 10’s tournament, in the days immediately preceding the Hong Kong 7’s (World Series). Please get in touch with Ben Collins (bpc@sedberghschool.org) if you are interested in getting involved or would like to find out more.
The OS Rifle Club (OSRC) meet annually on Ashburton Day at Bisley, in July.
The OS Club regularly sends an A, B, and sometimes C team to compete in the Veterans Match, held immediately after the Ashburton, which compete alongside the School team for a combined score.
If you are interested in getting involved, please get in touch with Ben Collins (bpc@sedberghschool.org).
The OS Running Club invites all OS of all running experience to come along to either run the course or spectate on Wilson Run Day in the Lent Term, which is always accompanied by the annual Wilson Run Dinner held on the previous evening, where all are also welcome.
In addition, there is also the opportunity for OS Runners to compete against other Schools’ Alumni Teams at the annual Thames Hare & Hounds Alumni Race, which is held over a 5-mile course across Wimbledon Common. This long standing race is for old boys and girls of schools with strong cross country running traditions and is suitable for all age groups and abilities. The race is followed by drinks and a team dinner.
New runners are always welcome so please get in touch with Geoff Watson (geoffreymwatson@aol.com) or Ben Collins (bpc@sedberghschool.org) if you are interested in getting involved in any of these events.
